October 2012 Meeting

This month had a very short meeting. One notable item was that a new chair was sworn in, filling the spot vacated by Charles Haas earlier this year. The selection was Dean Johnston, who was previously mayor of Lake Elmo. Our other item of business was to approve the master plan for the Intercity Regional Trail in the Minneapolis/Bloomington/Richfield area. This is the trail that we approved adding to the regional system back in July, and there really wasn't any new information compared to what we reviewed at that time. A large portion of the funding for this trail is coming from a federal grant ($5.5 million), which is great. Additionally, that grant has time terms on it, so the trail is expected to be completed by 2015.

In staff reports, Seyon Nyanwleh inquired as to whether admission fees for those park districts that charge them would be reimbursable expenses. This is governed by both Metropolitan Council policy and state statute, so Council legal staff will be consulted and a staff report presented in November.
