Highway 96

March 2013 Meeting

I also chaired the meeting this month, as Dean Johnston was still away on vacation. Our first business item was reimbursement consideration for a bicycle and pedestrian trail bridge over I-35W in Lino Lakes. This spot is interesting as it has some parallels to the I-35W crossing at Highway 96. In this case, the existing highway bridge will need to be replaced "eventually", but there's no sign of that happening soon, so Anoka County determined that it made more sense to build a separate bridge to carry the Central Anoka County RT over the freeway.

Ramsey County approves TCAAP parcel purchase

If you haven't heard already, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a 430-acre parcel of land on the west side of the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant property in Arden Hills. This is good news for area park users, as it puts us one step closer to getting another part of that property turned into parkland. At present, 113 acres in the northwestern corner of the area is currently parkland as part of the Rice Creek North Regional Trail and Rice Creek Water Trail.

July 2012 Meeting

This month we approved an amendment to the Policy Plan adding two regional trails to the system, both in the west Metro. We had discussed these additions back in April, and then the required public hearing was held last month with no opposition voiced, allowing us to approve the additions this month. The Intercity RT will be a short north-south link in Richfield and Bloomington connecting the Minneapolis Chain of Lake and Grand Rounds to the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, passing the planned Nine Mile Creek RT and Mall of America on the way.
